About Niko McCarty
I’m a journalist, programmer and former synthetic biologist. My goal is to tell captivating stories about biotechnology.
I hold an M.A. in science journalism from New York University, M.S. in Bioengineering from the California Institute of Technology and MRes in Systems and Synthetic Biology from Imperial College London, where I was a Fulbright Scholar.
My peer-reviewed research has appeared in Nature Communications, Trends in Biotechnology, eLife and elsewhere. I’ve published papers or hold patents for CRISPR technologies, multiplexed guide RNAs, and engineered microbial communities.
